Extreme Peru: Arequipa 0 was the first short-term project for Extreme Peru and went from July 16th to July 29th 2009. The project involved an Impact Team and a Construction Team.

The Construction Team accomplished a great deal on the Larry & Addie Garman Training center. The Training center will serve as the dorms and housing for all 40/40’s that come through Arequipa. It will also be the location for Bible and Language training that will prepare all long term missionaries before they arrive at their final field destination. This is also the District Center for the Nazarene Church in Southern Peru. The church of Zamacola will use the building as their church and use the rooms for Sunday School and other weekly meetings. This building is truly a “Multi-Purpose” building that will serve in growing the kingdom of God.

The construction team also used the opportunity to create lasting memories and make a lasting impact on their fellow Peruvian construction workers. There were several decisions for Christ made as a result of the communion these men and women shared with the locals.

The Impact Team had an amazing week and a half as well. Because of their work they saw a total of 170 people come to the Lord and traveled literally to every corner of Arequipa preaching the Gospel. Some of the events were a day spent in a children’s home, children’s hospital, puppet shows and crafts in numerous plaza’s, women’s events, a kids parade, a concert aimed towards the college age group, 2 Jesus film showings and others!

The Impact Team was a great blessing to the local pastors who used this time as a real boost to their local churches and utilized the Short Termers to Jump Start the Church Planting movement in Arequipa. All Impact events were specific needs that the local pastors saw and this was truly collaboration between the local Peruvian church and Extreme Nazarene.
