BUILDING PROJECT

Construction Man-Hours: 2024

Decisions for Christ: 316
Extreme Peru: Arequipa 1 was the second short-term project in Arequipa and went from August 7th to August 19th 2009. The project involved an impact team and a construction team.

The construction team began tiling the downstairs of the sanctuary of Zamacola and also painted the outside of the Garman Training Center. Plumbing was done, more electrical work welding was done and the trusses were hung for the roof. On August 16th the district center was dedicated. The training center was dedicated to Larry and Addie Garman and the district center was dedicated to the late Daniel Max Walker. The training center will serve as the dorms and housing, as well as the location for Bible and language training, for all 40/40s that will be serving in one of the urban sites in southern Peru. This is also the district center for the Nazarene Church in southern Peru. The church of Zamacola will use the building as their church and use the rooms for Sunday School and other weekly meetings. This building is truly a “Multi-Purpose” building that will serve in growing the kingdom of God.

The impact team kept very busy all week as well. Trips to children’s hospitals, showing the Jesus Film, women’s outreach, and plaza evangelism were some of the events that took place. Lonna Vopat led a group of women into the local women’s prison and shared in a time of compassion with the inmates. She also helped put together a Magdalena film showing that shows the importance of women and the redemption that women have in Christ. Scott Englund led a group of men into a all men’s drug rehab center for a time of worship and testimony sharing.

At the end of this project, a total of 316 people came to know the Lord and the construction team poured in over 2000 total man hours into the completion of the District Training Center. Extreme Peru: Arequipa 1 wrapped up on Wednesday the 19th. God provided his hand of protection over this group as no serious injuries took place. Praise God for the difference that was made through this group of short term volunteers.
