Arequipa (Cercado)

Jan 2012 - Dec 2013

Arequipa is the second largest city in Peru and is known for being a center for education. A unique attribute of this city is the large gap between the rich and the poor. Because of its rapid growth and development (three large commercial areas opened in two years time), the center of the city has attracted the rich, while the poor have been pushed to the outer limits of Arequipa. It is not uncommon to see wealth in one sector of Arequipa, but then drive ten minutes to discover whole communities living in poverty.
