Church Plant Project

Ambato

Jan 2013 - Feb 2015

On a clear morning, the smoke and ash rising from the Tungurahua Volcano can be seen from every window and rooftop within the city of Ambato. The city, located in the highest mountain range in South America is surrounded by volcanoes that can be seen on a clear day. Destroyed in 1949 by an earthquake, Ambato was rebuilt. Known for its resilience in the face of adversity, Ambato now hosts the Festival of Flowers and Fruits during the month of February, attracting locals and tourists alike to this grand celebration.

Ambato was Extreme Nazarene’s first church plant in the country of Ecuador. After two years of intense discipleship, prayer and leadership training, God blessed the prayers and ministries of the 40/40 team with a self sustaining church. The Puerta Abierta Iglesia del Nazareno de Ambato (Open Door Church of the Nazarene of Ambato) now operates under the pastors, Lenilde and Consuela Huaman and local leadership.
