Boise (pronounced Boy-see) is the capital and most populous city of the U.S. state of Idaho, as well as the county seat of Ada County. Located on the Boise River in southwestern Idaho, the population of Boise at the 2010 Census was 205,671, the 99th largest in the nation (so really, not that big).
It has a few interesting stories of how it got it’s name. One story says that Captain B.L.E. Bonneville was the source. Desert surrounds the Boise River Valley, so when he and his explorers came over the hills and saw the lush fauna of the valley a French-speaking guide became overwhelmed and yelled, “Les bois! Les bois!” (“The wood! The wood!”).
