Church Plant Project

Puno sits at 12,000 feet above sea level in the middle of the Altiplanos (High Plains) in the south of Peru. The city is nestled alongside the country’s famous Lake Titicaca, which is shared by Bolivia. At such a high altitude the weather is constantly cold, never reaching temperatures above 70 degrees fahrenheit.
The people of Puno are extremely superstitious and traditional. Many people visit shamans to have their future read and/or practice black or white magic. Along with strong ties to folkloric legend, idolatry within the Catholic church is prevalent and widespread.
There were many challenges the 40/40s faced as they spread the Word of Christ. The people of Puno were very suspicious and untrusting so the main challenge was finding disciples that would open their hearts to God and to the missionaries. Even with all the challenges, God led the team to people who have become strong disciples and continue to serve in the Puno church to this day.
